I was talking to George Watson College’s current fifth years about 500 miles and Miles for Smiles on Monday. My husband’s daughter, Caitlin, is in that year group. I was hoping to get the pupils thinking about how they might do miles in the 500 miles Challenge before they break up for the summer - but also to encourage them to volunteer to help as stewards on the day of the 500 miles Challenge and to be helpers at the ball in the evening. I don’t think I have ever been asked so many questions after a talk – which was brilliant! I hope they are as interested in helping! Caitlin is going to co-ordinate the volunteers and is already the first official volunteer for the 500 miles Challenge.
The signs are good though because I am delighted to have the services of the School pipe band to form a guard for guests arriving at the ball in the evening – and I think at least some of the musicians will complete mile 499 in the 500 miles Challenge which will provide a wonderful musical accompaniment to the 500th mile – which will be announced at a later date. And Calum Watson and Alexander Middleton are being the piper and drummer for the launch photos for Miles for Smiles tomorrow!
Thanks to Isy and Ian for their help!
